Unemployment benefit supplement
This supplementary grant can be provided during the period you are still job-seeking and receiving compensation from unemployment insurance. The grant supplements the unemployment insurance compensation.
Trygghetsfonden BAO-Finansförbundet supplements the unemployment insurance fund’s benefit during your period as a jobseeker, for up to 300 days. If you are 55 years of age or older, you may receive an additional 150 days of supplement.
Who can receive the unemployment insurance supplement?
To be eligible to apply for the unemployment insurance supplement, you must:
- Have been made redundant or have left on the employer's initiative due to a redundancy situation. You must also have been continuously employed on a permanent basis at the same or different banks/companies affiliated with Finansarbetsgivarna for the past five years (probationary period included).
- have applied for and been granted unemployment insurance benefits (a-kassa)
Grants are payable at the earliest from the date of approval. Approved grants are valid for one year from the date of approval.

From October 1 2025, an income requirement also applies in the unemployment insurance fund, which may result in an individual receiving anywhere from 66 days to 300 days from the unemployment insurance fund. The security fund only pays compensation for the days on which unemployment insurance is paid. For example, if you receive 66 compensation days from the unemployment insurance fund, you will also only receive 66 days from Trygghetsfonden BAO-Finansförbundet.
Supplementary compensation from Trygghetsfonden BAO-Finansförbundet
Only those who have had a monthly salary higher than the ceiling of the unemployment insurance fund (currently SEK 34,000) can receive supplementary compensation. The supplementary compensation from Trygghetsfonden BAO-Finansförbundet follows the percentage compensation level of the unemployment insurance fund (80%–35% above) but has a higher ceiling than the unemployment insurance fund.
The ceiling levels for supplement are:
- Day 1–100:
A maximum of SEK 272 per day in supplementary benefit from Trygghetsfonden BAO-Finansförbundet.
- Day 101–300:
A maximum of SEK 229 per day in supplementary benefit from Trygghetsfonden BAO-Finansförbundet.
- Day 301–450 (if you are 55 years of age or older):
A maximum of SEK 105 per day in supplementary benefit from Trygghetsfonden BAO-Finansförbundet.
Benefits are paid for up to five days per week and are disbursed monthly in arrears.
How is the supplement calculated?
The supplement from Trygghetsfonden BAO-Finansförbundet is calculated based on your monthly salary and the unemployment insurance fund’s benefit level.
Example
An individual had a monthly salary of SEK 39,000 before becoming unemployed. In the case of full unemployment, the unemployment insurance fund pays the maximum daily allowance (SEK 1,236/day) during the first hundred days, and the individual receives approximately SEK 27,200 from the unemployment insurance fund in months where the number of working days is 22.
Since the individual earned more than SEK 34,000 (the ceiling of the unemployment insurance fund), supplementary compensation can be granted during the first hundred days at approximately SEK 4,000/month (SEK 182/day).
The unemployment insurance and supplementary compensation combined then amount to SEK 31,200/month in the case of full unemployment in a month containing 22 working days, which constitutes 80% of the salary the individual had before becoming unemployed (i.e. SEK 39,000).
Important information
- Severance pay
If you have received severance pay, the unemployment insurance fund converts it into monthly salaries. The supplement from Trygghetsfonden BAO-Finansförbundet is not paid until these monthly salary periods have elapsed, in accordance with the unemployment insurance fund’s decision.
- Activity support
The supplement is also paid if your unemployment insurance benefit, when you participate in a labour market policy programme, is replaced by activity compensation from the Swedish Social Insurance Agency (Försäkringskassan). In these cases, you need to upload your payment specification from Försäkringskassan in the platform.
- Salary
The monthly salary used for our payment of supplementary compensation is determined based on the salary reported by the employer in their notification.
